In what ways did the events at Fort Necessity combine with other causes to begin the French and Indian War Free Essays
The French and Indian War is a very well known war and itââ¬â¢s most famous cause is the events that took place at Fort Necessity. However the truth is, is that there is much more to that war than just one incident. The French and British did not have good history with each other already so it was not easy immigrating to the same land without a head leader. We will write a custom essay sample on In what ways did the events at Fort Necessity combine with other causes to begin the French and Indian War? or any similar topic only for you Order Now As well as the ways of making money for the two different countries is different so they tend to clash in that respect. Lastly coming to the New World is about gaining power and control and they saw each other in the way of becoming a superpower country. The French and the British have had their disagreements in the past and just because they have moved to a new country doesnââ¬â¢t mean that those disagreements have gone away. The British were farmers, manufacturers, and tradesmen. The French on the other hand were mainly trappers and riverboat traders. This caused the inevitable, a conflict of interests from the Ohio River to Lake Champlain. The boundaries back then were not set in stone so it was pretty difficult to definitely say what land belonged to whom. The French and the British also had sort of an unspoken competition over land and power. This also caused conflict. Both France and Britain came to the New World to become much more powerful and basically take over most of the world. They came with greed for money, land and control. Initially Britain had more land, but the French had some good resources. In order to gain global power, resources were key. Resources could lead to money and trade and everything a country could want. As stated before, boundaries were pretty vague and both Britain and France wanted control over the Ohio River Valley. In reaction France began to build forts there and the British tried to take them down and failed. Then the British started to build their own fort, Fort Necessity. Soon the French approached the fort and this caused a battle, which left the British in a worse position than before and they had to surrender. This caused the tension and anger between the two countries to rise even more. Lastly trade was a huge issue between the French and British. They wanted different things, but they needed the same land. The Ohio Valley was full of trees and rich soil. The French wanted the land to keep the trees and continue the fur trade. This keeps the Indians happy because they get the benefit of trading with the French. However, the English wanted the land to chop down the trees and farm. This is how they make their profit, but it was also cause the Indians to have to move out. The French were not happy with what the British wanted to do with the land. The French were allies with the Indians and didnââ¬â¢t want to see them displaced. In conclusion there were many causes to the French and Indian War, not just the incident at Fort Necessity. The French and British already were not on the best terms with each other and they had no plan to change that. Also the French and British both wanted to be all-powerful, but they couldnââ¬â¢t do that together. The both wanted the land and the economic gain, but they both couldnââ¬â¢t have it. It also affected the trade. They wanted to use the Ohio River Valley for two different things that could not coincide. All these disagreements and the tension rose to the point of war. This was war was also known as the French and Indian War or the Seven Years War. How to cite In what ways did the events at Fort Necessity combine with other causes to begin the French and Indian War?, Papers

Tritts View Of Young Goodman Brown Essays - Cognitive Biases
Tritt's View of ?Young Goodman Brown? In the article, Young Goodman Brown' and the Psychology of Projection?, Michael Tritt critically analyzes Nathaniel Hawthorne's ?Young Goodman Brown? to construct the process of how Hawthorne regards Goodman Brown's behavior. Tritt examines the phenomenon of projection in psychology and believes that ?Brown's compulsive condemnation of others, along with his consistent denial of his own culpability, illustrates a classically defined case of projection? (116). He defines projection as an unconscious process when a person projects their own traits or desires onto other people, thus representing a false perception on whom the projection is made. Tritt perceives Goodman Brown's withdrawal is from the persuasion that he has not fallen in with his devilish community, thus Goodman Brown projects his guilt to them in an attempt to escape a guilty subconscious. While Goodman Brown is in the forest, he locates his anxieties upon the community that he lives in. The experience in the forest actually depicts Goodman Brown's own evils. Tritt refers to Goodman Brown snatching away a child being catechized by Goody Cloyse: If Brown truly conceives of himself as fallen, why would he snatch the child from one fiend to yield yet another, namely himself? Brown must believe himself untainted, or at least less tainted than various members of his community. (115) Michael Tritt believes that Brown's anxieties inevitably stick within his subconscious forever. The anxieties suggest a psychological design with aspects of misperception and false perception to reveal a projection process. Tritt asserts that Goodman Brown's evil is located in others, and Brown believes himself to be without guilt although his desires are still in his subconscious. It is a ?vice-like grip with which such process is paralyzing, indeed terrifying? (Tritt 116). Undoubtedly, Michael Tritt uses a psychological strategy to critically analyze ?Young Goodman Brown?. He carefully constructs his criticism through quotes from other critics and the short story. Sigmund Freud is also quoted because he theorized the projection process. I believe Michael Tritt wrote from a psychological viewpoint in order to analyze Goodman Brown as if he were a real human being and could be examined in a psychiatrist's office. The psychological strategy makes one think deeper than any other strategy and can reveal numerous possibilities of thoughts within a story. WORK CITED Tritt, Michael. Computational Lingustics Essay
Computational Lingustics Essay Computational Lingustics Essay Computational Linguistics Computational linguistics is a discipline between linguistics and computer technology, which is concerned with the computational aspects of our languages. This area of computer science can correlate with the field of Artificial Intelligence. Put simply, computational linguistics is a set of programs that turns human speech into words and motions. There are a couple of different areas of computational linguistics that make up its entirety; theoretic computational linguistics and applied computational linguistics. These two areas can be divided into sub-areas and from the sub-areas they can be itemized even further. Theoretical computational linguistics is organized into theoretical linguistics and cognitive science. This specific region deals with formal theories about the linguistic understanding that a human needs for producing, understanding, and interpreting language. This area has made significant advances; its complexities can only be interpreted and managed by man ironically only with the help of computers. ââ¬Å"These computers computational linguists are able to cultivate formal representations simulating characteristics of the human language and then incorporating that into programs.â⬠(1) These programs are what form the overall core for the assessment and additional development of their theories. Alongside these comprehensive concepts lays an alternative role that plays a huge contribution to the understanding of theoretical computational linguistics and that part is cognitive sciences. These programs are able to interpret the words given to them by dissecting the syntax and e xtensiveness of the our languages and then able to match it up with its programming; a computer that can teach itself. The other portion of computational linguistics is called applied computational linguistics which targets the real-world outcome of modeling human language use. The methods, techniques, tools, and applications in this area are often subsumed under the term language engineering or (human language technology. The current computational linguistic systems are far from achieving human ability of communicating they have numerous applications. The goal for this is to eventually have a computer program that will have the same communication skills as a human being. Once this is achieved it will open doors never thought possible in computing. After all the major problem today with computing is communication with the computer. Todayââ¬â¢s computers donââ¬â¢t really understand our language and it is very difficult to learn computer language, plus computer language doesnâ⠬â¢t correspond to the structure of human thought. Even if the computer understands your language its abilities are really limited. The major problem with this type of software is the interpretation of your speech. Since no one speaks exactly the same, one word you say might sound like a different word that someone else would say. As a result each individual person must ââ¬Å"teachâ⬠their computer the way that they speak. That process can often be a tedious and time consuming. Even after you ââ¬Å"teachâ⬠your computer they way that you speak its still not a hundred percent that it will recognize what you are saying. Because of that this type of software isnââ¬â¢t very efficient today, but once that barrier is broken this technology will revolutionize the computing industry. After all, all you will need to operate a computer is your voice. An excellent example of how this type of technology will benefit man kind is language translators. What I mean, is that with this technology it will let people create multi-language translators that will aid in business transactions, peace conferences, etc. It w ill bring humanity one step closer to become equal because we wont have the difference of languages to get in our way. Another area that this technology

Trumpet Fish Facts
Trumpet Fish Facts Trumpet fish are part of class Actinopterygii, which consists of ray-finned fish, and can be found in coral reefs throughout the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific oceans. There are three species of trumpet fish under the scientific name Aulostomus: the West Atlantic trumpetfish (A. maculatus), the Atlantic trumpetfish (A. strigosus), and the Chinese trumpetfish (A. chinensis). Their name is derived from the Greek words flute (aulos) and mouth (stoma) for their long mouths. Fast Facts Scientific Name: AulostomusCommon Names: Trumpetfish, Caribbean trumpetfish, stickfishOrder: SyngnathiformesBasic Animal Group: FishDistinguishing Characteristics: Long, slender bodies with a small mouth, varied colors.Size: 24-39 inchesWeight: UnknownLife Span: UnknownDiet: Small fish and crustaceansHabitat: Coral reefs and rocky reefs throughout the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific oceans.Population: UnknownConservation Status: Least ConcernFun Fact: Male trumpet fish carry fertilized eggs with them until they hatch. Description Trumpet fish have elongated bodies and snouts leading into a small jaw. The lower jaw has small teeth, and their chin has a short barbel for defense. They also have a row of spines on their backs that can be raised to ward off predators, and their body is covered with small scales. Trumpet fish can grow anywhere from 24 to 39 inches depending on the species, with A. chinesis reaching up to 36 inches, A. maculatus averaging 24 inches, and A. strigosus reaching up to 30 inches. Their coloration helps them blend in with their environment, and they can even change their colors for stealth and during their mating ritual. Habitat and Distribution Trumpetfish in Chichiriviche de la Costa,Venezuela,Caribbean Sea. Humberto Ramirez/Moment/Getty Images A. maculatus are found in the Caribbean sea and off the northern coasts of South America, A. chinensis are found throughout the Pacific and Indian oceans, and A. strigosus are found in the Atlantic ocean off the coast of Africa and parts of South America. They live in coral reefs and reef flats in the tropical and subtropical waters in these areas. Diet and Behavior A trumpet fishââ¬â¢s diet consists of small fish and crustaceans, as well as occasionally larger fish. For larger prey, trumpet fish swim near large herbivorous fish to hide and ambush their prey. To catch smaller food, they float in a vertical, head-down position among corals to conceal themselves- a technique that also hides them from predators- and wait for their prey to come across their path. They capture them by suddenly expanding their mouth, which generates a suction strong enough to draw in their prey. Additionally, they can also consume fish larger than the diameter of their mouths due to the elasticity of their tissue. Reproduction and Offspring Not much is known about trumpet fish reproduction, but trumpet fish begin courtship via a dancing ritual. Males use their color changing abilities and dance to win over females. This ritual occurs close to the surface. After the ritual, females transfer their eggs to the males to fertilize and care for until they hatch. Like seahorses, the males care for the eggs, carrying them in a special pouch. Species Trumpetfish. Daniela Dirscherl/WaterFrame/Getty Images Plus There are three species of Aulostomus: A. maculatus, A. chinensis, and A. strigosus. The coloration of these fish changes depending on the species. A. maculatus are most commonly reddish-brown but also can be grey-blue and yellow-green with black spots. A. chinensis can be yellow, reddish-brown, or brown with pale bands. The most common colors for A. strigosus are brown or blue, green or orange tones, or intermediate shades. They also have a pattern of pale, vertical/horizontal lines across their body. A. chinensis are seen in shallow reef flats of at least 370 feet. They can be seen swimming close to coral or rocky sea floors or floating motionless under ledges. A. strigosus are a more coastal species and are found over rocky or coral substrates in inshore waters. A. maculatus range in depth from 7-82 feet and are found close to coral reefs. Conservation Status All three species of Aulostomus are currently designated as least concern according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). However, the A. maculatus population has been found to be decreasing, while the populations of A. chinensis and A. strigosus are currently unknown. Sources Aulostomus chinensis. Introduction Pursuit of an entrepreneurial dream starts with a viable dream. Once a new idea is conceptualized and a business plan is drawn and decision made concerning the legal structure, basic tactics such as pursuing an international opportunity or starting a new business venture, and financing issues, one can then embark on the entrepreneurship journey. For most people who venture into entrepreneurship, they prefer a new business rather than already existing business opportunities (Reuvid 2008, p. 16). Some people begin with a desire to begin a business and then look for an idea while others start by having an exciting idea and then consider entrepreneurship. However, there are basic issues that one must consider when consid ering an entrepreneurial venture, one of them is finances, industry concerned, legal issues and potential risks and rewards involved. Strategy for lisntening and speaking Term Paper
Strategy for lisntening and speaking - Term Paper Example Regardless of the problems with speaking, role playing engages all the students to interact using the new language and to build better conversational skills. Role playing is known to raise learnersââ¬â¢ interest in the subject matter (Poorman, 2002) and assist in helping students to understand the concepts that have been taught associated with the foreign language. The role of the teacher in building interest in the role play cannot be understated, and the theory indicates that the educator should be asking a series of questions to help students to loosen their barriers and to set the theme of the role play exercises (Valimareanu, 2010). New language learners often find embarrassment and personal dishonour when they believe that their peers or others in the social environment have misunderstood their second language or failed to comprehend what was being discussed. Through role play, the educator can reinforce that such misunderstandings are normal and serve as a moderator to help with the comprehension process whilst also offering strategies to help better construct conversational skills. ... The strategy for the educator is to first identify the specific objectives to enhance listening development (Richards, 2008). Known as the metacognitive sequence, there is a step known as First Listen in which students are engaged with the instructor who is reading a text in a new language. Students follow along in their own texts where they will circle keywords or specific phrases that they have predicted accurately and are instructed to write down new information that they have heard, but are unfamiliar with (Richards, 2008, p.13). This helps students not only listen more effectively, but understand their own expertise or inability to comprehend as a part of metacognitive thinking. After identifying the strengths and weaknesses related to listening skills, the teacher then promotes a total in-class discussion to look through their failure to comprehend or to confirm their accuracy. This also builds a better self-confidence over the long term. References Lorch, R.F., Lorch, E.P., & Klusewitz, M.A. (1993). College studentsââ¬â¢ conditional knowledge about reading.
